Take Cover!
Dumpsters often exhibit a habit of putting out rust lines along points of stress on the metal surface. Most of the time these lines are rather annoying visually and I find myself avoiding them as a subject. In this case those lines, interspersed with paint stains and rusty gouges, came together in a rather exceptional way. This is one of many, many examples of how random shapes and lines greatly outpace my capacity to originate bold graphic elements. For me, the most exciting aspect of my photography is the discovery of seemingly highly-structured images that occur due to random occurrences.
In this case, it was after I inverted the image on my computer that I saw the implied perspective of incoming shrapnel and a figure falling, head-first, back into the frame. Some additional cropping accentuated that perspective.
Another example of stress lines as the basis of an image can be seen in my image, "Growth", which can be found in my Abstract Representational gallery.
